Note Rhododendron pentaphyllum Maximovicz (var. pentaphyllum: Japanese common name - akebono tutuji) is not a synonym of Rhododendron pentaphyllum Maximovicz var. nikoense Komatsu. Rhododendron pentaphyllum Maximovicz (var. pentaphyllum) can be found in Honshu (west of Kinki region), Shikoku and Kyushu.
